Description
Uses
- Cold sores (herpes labialis): Treats blisters on the lips and face.
- Genital herpes: Helps manage outbreaks.
- Other herpes infections: Can be used for other herpes infections of the skin or mucous membranes, as directed by a doctor.
How it works
- It is an antiviral that prevents the herpes virus from replicating (multiplying).
- It helps reduce pain, itching and the length of outbreaks, but does not eliminate the virus from the body.
Directions for use
- Start early: Apply at the first signs (tingling, itching).
- Apply a thin layer: Apply a thin layer to the sore and the surrounding skin.
- Wash your hands: Always wash your hands before and after application to avoid spreading it.
- Frequency: Usually apply about 5 times a day, every 4 hours, for up to 5 days.
- Avoid sensitive areas: Avoid contact with the eyes and mouth (unless it is a specific oral product). Key points to remember
- This treatment does not cure: it relieves the symptoms, not the virus itself.
- It helps prevent transmission: during treatment, it can reduce the risk of passing the virus to others.
