Ceftriaxone injection (1 Gram)

250.00 G

  • The ceftriaxone (1 gram) injection is a powerful broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of serious bacterial infections. It is given by a healthcare professional intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM).

Description

Main uses

This medicine works by killing bacteria or inhibiting their growth and is effective against infections affecting various parts of the body:

  • Brain (meningitis)
  • Lungs (pneumonia)
  • Urinary tract and kidneys
  • Bones and joints
    Skin and soft tissue
    Blood (septicemia)
  • Abdomen
Specific sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea and syphilis)
  • Surgical prophylaxis (to prevent infections during or after surgery)

Method of administration

  • The 1 gram dose comes as a powder to be reconstituted with a specific liquid before injection.
  • Intravenous (IV): The powder is dissolved in sterile water for injection or a compatible calcium-free solution (such as 0.9% sodium chloride solution) and given as an infusion over 2 to 30 minutes, depending on the volume and method of administration.
  • Intramuscular (IM): The powder is usually dissolved in a lidocaine solution to reduce pain at the injection site. Do not inject more than one gram into the same muscle.

Important safety note : Ceftriaxone must never be mixed or given at the same time as intravenous solutions containing calcium (for example, lactated Ringer’s solution) because of the risk of potentially fatal precipitates forming in the body.
