The metronidazole is a prescription antibiotic and antiparasitic used to treat various bacterial and parasitic infections, including those of the intestine, skin and reproductive organs (such as bacterial vaginosis or trichomoniasis), dental infections and stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori. It works by inhibiting the growth of susceptible microorganisms, but is ineffective against viruses such as the flu virus. It must be taken exactly as prescribed, preferably with a meal to avoid digestive upset, and the treatment must always be completed.

Common uses

Bacterial infections : blood, brain, lungs, pelvic area, skin, leg ulcers and prevention of post-operative infections.
Parasitic infections : giardiasis, amebiasis and trichomoniasis.
Helicobacter pylori : in combination with other medicines for the treatment of stomach ulcers.
Dental infections : gum infections, gingivitis and dental abscesses.

Directions for use

Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
You can take this medicine with food or a large glass of water or milk to avoid digestive upset.
Complete the whole treatment, even if you feel better sooner, to avoid resistance.

Important notes

Ineffective against viruses: this medicine does not work against viral infections (colds, flu).
Alcohol: avoid alcohol, as it can cause severe nausea, vomiting and flushing.
