Clotrimazole vaginal suppository

40.00 G

The clotrimazole vaginal suppository (or tablet) is a local antifungal used to treat vaginal yeast infections (candidiasis) caused by fungi, relieving symptoms such as itching, burning, redness and abnormal discharge. It is usually given as a single dose (500 mg) or as a longer course (200 mg) for adults, applied vaginally with an applicator. Note that it can weaken latex condoms.

Description

Main indications
  • Treatment of vaginal yeast (fungal) infections.
  • Relieves typical symptoms: itching, burning, redness, swelling, pain.
How to use
  • Vaginal use, usually in the evening at bedtime, lying down.
  • The suppository is inserted deep into the vagina, often with the applicator provided.

Important precautions
  • Sexual intercourse:

Avoid during treatment so as not to infect your partner and to reduce the risk of reinfection; latex condoms may be damaged.

  • Pregnancy/Breastfeeding:

Possible, but the applicator is not recommended during pregnancy (risk of injury); consult a doctor.

  • Interactions:

Tell your doctor if you are taking immunosuppressants (tacrolimus, sirolimus), as clotrimazole may increase their concentration.

  • If symptoms persist/get worse:

See a doctor, especially if it is a first infection or if you have fever, vomiting or bleeding.

Possible side effects
  • Local irritation, burning sensation, itching.
When to see a doctor
